Worship

We are a "liturgical" church which means that we follow orders of worship that derive from early Christianity. But the content of our worship uses contemporary language. Episcopal Church worship usually follows The Book of Common Prayer. At Christ Church we seek to provide a variety of services each week.

Our most common service is the Holy Eucharist (known in various traditions as The Lord's Supper, Holy Communion, The Mass, or The Last Supper). From the earliest times the Church has understood that when we break bread together, the Lord is with us. Following the Resurrection of Jesus, when the disciples were together for a meal (in the upper room, on the Road to Emmaeus, on the shore of the Sea of Galilee) Jesus appeared among them. And so it is still our expectation that he is among us when we break the bread and drink the wine.

Other special liturgies are conducted from time to time including baptisms, marriages, funerals, prayer services, vigils, healing services, and special holy days. The word "liturgy" literally means "work of the people." So regardless of who is leading a service of worship, we believe that all the people of God lend validity to the experience.
