FAQ's

Who may take communion?

We invite all who seek to walk in faith to join us at the Altar, sharing in Christ’s sustaining life. You may participate by receiving the Bread and Wine, or by receiving only the Bread. Or you may come to the Altar for a blessing while others come for Communion. (Instead of receiving the Bread and Wine, you may place your hands over your heart. The Eucharistic Minister will pray for God’s blessing upon you.)

We issue this invitation to people attending our services:

"This is the table of Jesus, not just the Table of the Episcopal Church or Christ Church, Dayton. It is made ready for those who love him and for those who want to love him more. So come, you who have much faith and you who have little; you who have been here often and you who have not been here long; you who have tried to follow and you who have failed.
Come, because it is Jesus who invites you. It is God’s will that those who wish should meet him here."

Who May come to Christ Church?

Christ Church welcomes all people without reservation. We are a community of great diversity including rich and poor; White and Black; Yellow and Brown; gay, lesbian and straight; bisexual and transgendered; Hearing and Deaf; old and young; abled and disabled.

For more than 15 years we have been home to Dayton Dignity which is the Roman Catholic group that supports GLBT persons. And for almost a decade we have hosted Youth Quest which supports teens who are wrestling with issues of gender identity.

We are especially delighted that beginning with Easter, 2010, our Bishop will permit our clergy to bless same-gendered couples.

Our core belief is in Jesus who welcomes all people, and who calls upon us, through our baptismal vows, "to respect the dignity of every human being."

How do I join the Church?

The basic requirement for becoming a church member is Baptism. Anyone desiring to be baptized should contact the Rector.

For folk who have been baptized in another tradition and who wish to join Christ Church, there are newcomer classes offered periodically which prepare people for being received into the Episcopal Church or for being Confirmed.

For people coming to Christ Church from another Episcopal Church, a Letter of Transfer can be requested from their former parishes.
