Parish Health Ministry


The purpose of the Parish Health Ministry is to offer a prevention-focused program to parishioners in the Christ Episcopal faith community which encourages whole person health through the integration of body, mind and spirit; increases self-knowledge; personal responsibility and interdependence among God’s people. Roles of the Parish Nurse in the program include health educator, health counselor, facilitator, advocate, and referral source.

The five activities that are most helpful are:
• Blood pressure screening and monitoring
• Parish nurse articles in the Broadcast
• Flu shot program
• Literature and handouts
• Cholesterol/Blood Sugar screening.

Other activities include:

  • Bulletin Board health information;
  • monthly weigh-in and Body Mass Index;
  • Community Blood program;
  • Stress Management classes;
  • home, hospital, and nursing home visits;
  • Hospice classes;
  • referral to community resources and Loan closet.
