CityHeart is a service offered by Christ Church to people in the heart of the city of Dayton. Christ Church opens its doors daily to people in need of food, shelter, transportation, counseling, comfort and referral. We operate in conjunction with both the The Benefit Bank, a service to assist people to access programs and benefits they are unaware of and HelpLink, a United Way referral service. Waffle Shop Grants. Financial support for mission work financed through the proceeds of the Waffle Shop which is held every November.
These grants are disbursed to support a variety of ministries and good works both locally and abroad.
Hunger Ministry. The Hunger Ministry consists of a group of programs to help eliminate hunger in the community. Every Sunday we collect both food and money to support the food bank at St. Andrew's Episcopal Church and a hot meal for the residents of the St. Vincent's Homeless Shelter on the third Wednesday of every month. A team of people from Christ Church serve the residents at St. Vincent's. We also provide sack lunches -- Monday through Friday -- to people who are hungry. And we refer many to places where they can obtain a hot meal every day.
Twelve-Step Programs. We have 12-step programs at Christ Church Monday through Saturday. Alcoholics Anonymous, Sex Addicts Anonymous, Gay Alcoholics Anonymous, and Al-anon for families and significant others of addicts. Call the Church at 223-2239 for times of meetings.
Vote Dayton. This is an effort to register citizens to vote and to get out the vote to enable citizens to influence the issues and people who will make decisions that impact their lives.
Benefit Bank. The Benefit Bank helps people discover which public benefits for which they may be eligible including low income tax credits, food stamps, child care, WIC, and other state and federal assistance programs. Applicants should contact the church to make an appointment with a Benefits Bank counselor.
Prepare the Future. We know how to best educate children. Small class sizes, early childhood education for at-risk children, and many other research-based processes and programs are well-known. However, there is neither the public nor the political will to do what we know will work. Christ Church is one of 17 "Action Trees" in Ohio which is advocating and supporting efforts to do what actually is needed and effective in public education.
CROP Walk. We join people of faith from throughout the Greater Dayton area in a walk to raise money for and awareness of local and worldwide hunger.
Greater Dayton Christian Connections (GDCC) is our Dayton Area Council of Churches. GDCC works to promote Christian unity and cooperation, interfaith dialogue, and racial harmony. Christ Church supports this important work with our time and money.
